Dr. Jacqueline Heinen-Weiler
About Dr. Jacqueline Heinen-Weiler
Dr. Jacqueline Heinen-Weiler is a researcher and technical head of the EMMACF at the MIC of Ruhr University Bochum. She is responsible for the operation of state-of-the-art electron microscopy techniques and serves as the central point of contact for methodological, organizational, and application-related aspects of electron microscopy (EM).
Her work focuses on the optimization of established procedures and the implementation of innovative EM techniques and workflows, including conventional EM, cryo-EM, mapping approaches, 3D analyses, and correlative light and electron microscopy (CLEM), enabling interdisciplinary research projects in biological and medical sciences at a high technical level
The EMMACF was newly established at the end of 2024 through a DFG major instrumentation grant. Its infrastructure centers on a high-performance cryo-transmission electron microscope (cryo-TEM), complemented by advanced sample preparation equipment, including a trimming system, ultramicrotome, high-pressure freezing system, and freeze substitution unit, significantly expanding the EM workflow.
Dr. Jacqueline Heinen-Weiler is further engaged in the training and supervision of students, doctoral researchers, and internal and external users, supporting the continuous development of the EMMACF as a central platform for ultrastructural research.
Dr. Karin Schork
About Dr. Karin Schork
Dr. Karin Schork is a biostatistician specializing in the analysis of proteomics and clinical data. She is a member of the Core Unit for Bioinformatics at the Medical Faculty of the Ruhr-University Bochum (CUBiMed.RUB), where she provides statistical consulting and develops R packages for the analysis of proteomics data. She is also actively involved in the German Network for Bioinformatics Infrastructure (de.NBI / ELIXIR-DE).
After completing her studies in statistics at the Technical University of Dortmund, Dr. Schork joined the Medizinisches Proteom-Center at the Ruhr-University Bochum in 2017 and completed her PhD in 2024.
With over 14 years of experience in the R programming language, she regularly conducts courses on using R as part of the de.NBi project (German Network for Bioinformatics Infrastructure).
Her workshop, “Introduction to R,” offers a concise overview of R as a powerful tool for data analysis and is designed to be interactive. The workshop is supported by the German Network for Bioinformatics Infrastructure (de.NBI / ELIXIR-DE).
Über Dr. Karin Schork
Dr. Karin Schork ist Biostatistikerin mit Spezialisierung auf die Analyse von Proteomik- und klinischen Daten. Sie ist Mitglied der Kernstelle für Bioinformatik an der Medizinischen Fakultät der Ruhr-Universität Bochum (CUBiMed.RUB), wo sie statistische Beratung anbietet und R-Pakete für die Analyse von Proteomikdaten entwickelt. Außerdem engagiert sie sich aktiv im Deutschen Netzwerk für Bioinformatik-Infrastruktur (de.NBI / ELIXIR-DE).
Nach ihrem Studium der Statistik an der Technischen Universität Dortmund kam Dr. Schork 2017 zum Medizinischen Proteom-Center der Ruhr-Universität Bochum und schloss 2024 ihre Promotion ab.
Mit über 14 Jahren Erfahrung in der Programmiersprache R hält sie regelmäßig Kurse zur Verwendung von R im Rahmen des de.NBi-Projekts (Deutsches Netzwerk für Bioinformatik-Infrastruktur).
Ihr Workshop „Einführung in R“ bietet einen prägnanten Überblick über R als leistungsstarkes Werkzeug für die Datenanalyse und ist interaktiv gestaltet. Der Workshop wird vom Deutschen Netzwerk für Bioinformatik-Infrastruktur (de.NBI / ELIXIR-DE) unterstützt.

PROFESSOR DR CARMEN SCHEIBENBOGEN
Carmen Scheibenbogen is an Internal Medicine physician specialized in hematooncology and immunology, Professor for Immunology and Director of the Division Immunodeficiency and Postinfectious Diseases at the Institute of Medical Immunology, Charité Universitätsmedizin in Berlin, Germany. She is co-founder of the COST-funded European network for ME/CFS EUROMENE, the Charité Fatigue Centre (https://cfc.charite.de), and the Post COVID Network Charité (https://pcn.charite.de). In 2022, she was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit for her commitment to ME/CFS.
Her research focuses on chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS), Post Covid Syndrome, and immunodeficiencies and she has published more than 250 peer-reviewed papers. She is chair of the National Clinical Study Group NKSG, a clinical trial and research platform for ME/CFS and Post Covid (https://cfc.charite.de/klinische_studien/nksg/) and of the joint research project IMMME (immune mechanisms of ME/CFS, https://cfc.charite.de/forschung/immme/) trying to elucidate the role of GPCR antibodies in ME/CFS both funded by the German Federal Ministry of Research. In 2024, she received funding from the German Federal Ministry of Health to establish the healthcare research network PAISCare for Berlin https://pcn.charite.de/.

About Prof. Dr. med. Stefan Tullius
Stefan G. Tullius, MD, PhD is the Joseph E. Murray, MD Distinguished Chair in Transplant Surgery, Professor of Surgery at Harvard Medical School, and Director of the Transplant Surgery Research Laboratory at Brigham & Women’s Hospital, Boston. He is the Editor-in-Chief of Transplantation journals (Transplantation and Transplantation-Direct). Dr. Tullius has served on the boards of several international transplant societies, has been Vice President and Sr. Treasurer of The Transplantation Society (TTS), Council member of ESOT and Chair of several AST committees. He is also currently Vice President of the International Society of Uterus Transplantation. In addition to his clinical role as program director for Transplant Surgery, he leads a productive NIH-funded research laboratory with many international research cooperations. He is a frequent international speaker and Visiting Professor and has organized several international transplant meetings, serving currently on the Executive Organizing Committee of the International Transplant Meeting in Sydney, Australia, 2026. He lists > 355 PubMed scientific manuscripts in addition to numerous book chapters. His work has been recognized with many awards. Dr. Tullius is a member of the American Surgical Association, an honorary member of the French Academy of Medicine, and holds an honorary doctorate by the Gothenburg University.

About Prof. Dr. Larysa Natrus
Larysa Valentynivna Natrus, MD, PhD, DSc, born in 1971, is a Professor of Clinical Laboratory Diagnostics with expertise in clinical biochemistry, laboratory medicine, neurophysiology, and laboratory quality management. She graduated in General Medicine from Donetsk State Medical University in 1994. She obtained her PhD in 1999 and Doctor of Sciences degree in 2007, and was appointed Full Professor in 2011.
She has more than 25 years of scientific and teaching experience and led a neurophysiological laboratory studying neuronal impulse activity for over ten years. From 2014 to 2020, she served as Director of the Research Institute of Experimental and Clinical Medicine at Bogomolets National Medical University.
Prof. Natrus is the founder of undergraduate teaching in Clinical Laboratory Diagnostics in Ukraine, having developed the first national curricula, teaching programs, and textbooks (including English-language materials). She has also initiated and coordinated innovative elective courses at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
Her professional qualifications include Clinical Biochemistry, Clinical Laboratory Diagnostics, Laboratory Genetics, and Health Care Management, and she holds the highest qualification category in Clinical Laboratory Diagnostics. Since 2017, she has served as an Expert of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine in laboratory diagnostics and as Vice President of the Association for Quality Assurance of Laboratory Medicine.
She is a certified ISO 15189 mentor and auditor, trained by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and has participated in international laboratory accreditation and quality-improvement programs, including PEPFAR-supported initiatives.
Prof. Natrus has authored over 270 scientific and educational publications, holds 15 patents, and has supervised multiple doctoral and PhD theses.

About Prof. Dr. Doris Segets
Prof. Doris Segets is a W3 Professor and Chair of Particle Science and Technology at the University of Duisburg-Essen, Germany. Her research focuses on nanoparticle processing, interfacially dominated systems, and scale-bridging approaches for sustainable functional materials. She earned her PhD in Engineering (2013) and completed her habilitation in Mechanical Process Engineering (2020) at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg. After leading the Nanoparticle Processing Group at FAU and serving as Scientific Coordinator of the Interdisciplinary Center for Functional Particle Systems, she joined the University of Duisburg-Essen as Junior Professor in 2018 and became Full Professor in 2021. Prof. Segets is a recipient of several prestigious awards, including the DECHEMA Prize (2020) and the Gottschalk Diederich Baedeker Prize (2021), and holds leadership roles within ProcessNet and interdisciplinary research networks.

Keynote: Medicine’s Complicity in the Holocaust and Implications for Today: Sustaining Our Moral Compass
Confronting and learning about egregious ethical transgressions of health professionals and the medical establishment during Nazism and the Holocaust is needed in all health professions education - including for clinician-scientists - to support lifelong morally resilient, history-informed professional identity formation. Contemporary relevance of critical reflection on this history for cultivating moral leadership, countering antisemitism and discrimination of all kinds, and preserving human dignity is compelling. Through lenses of medical educator and daughter of a Holocaust survivor, Dr. Wald delves into this dark history and braids the story of her collaboration with the Witten-Herdecke Faculty of Health, Germany within their Auschwitz-Birkenau study trip for medical and psychology students. Impact of this education will be discussed as well as the contemporary relevance of this topic for all health professionals to help equip them with a moral compass for combatting bias and navigating ethical challenges and complexities in the best interest of patients and ethical research. This seminar provides essential historical knowledge, including compelling examples of moral courage/resistance, to catalyze reflection on individuals’ core values as healthcare professionals for humanistic and ethically responsible clinical and research practice as well as global citizenship.

Prof. Dr. Hedy Wald is Clinical Professor of Family Medicine at the Alpert Medical School of Brown University, Faculty; Harvard Medical School Pediatrics Leadership Program, and Commissioner; Lancet Commission on Medicine, Nazism, and the Holocaust. She is a Gold Humanism Foundation Harvard Macy Scholar, recipient of Dean’s Teaching Awards, a Fulbright Specialist Scholar in medical education for Ben Gurion University of Health Sciences, Israel, and Scholar-in Residence at Oxford University with the Institute for the Study of Global Antisemitism, UK. Her scholarly work includes invited presentations at over 120 health professions schools and healthcare organizations world-wide and over 100 publications on using guided reflective writing to enhance reflective practice and support professional identity formation, promoting resilience, wellbeing, and flourishing, countering antisemitism in medicine, and Medicine and the Holocaust in health professions education, a research interest. She speaks internationally and publishes on her cancer caregiver experience, including for the National Cancer Policy Forum of the National Academies of Medicine in Washington, DC. on the family perspective. Her creative writing, reviews, and poetry have appeared in literary and medical journals and her work has been featured in major media outlets globally. PD Dr. med. Beatrice Oehler, M.A.
About PD Dr. med. Beatrice Oehler, MA
PD Dr. med. Beatrice Oehler, M.A., is a senior anesthesiologist and intensivist as well as an advanced clinician scientist at the University Hospital Essen. She is board-certified in anesthesiology with additional specialization in intensive care and emergency medicine, and she holds a Master of Health Administration. Her clinical work focuses on anesthesia in major surgery including general and cardiothoracic procedures, advanced intensive care with a particular emphasis on ECMO therapy, transplant medicine, and perioperative pain management.
Scientifically, she leads the research group TRiP – Translational Research in Pain, where she investigates mechanisms of postoperative and ICU-related pain and sensory dysfunction, including Post-Intensive Care Syndrome. She has pursued research training at national and international institutions, including a postdoctoral fellowship at King’s College London, and holds competitive funding positions such as Advanced Clinician Scientist (BMFTR) and is part of the Collaborative Research Center 1158 funded by the DFG.
Dr. Oehler is deeply engaged in scientific and professional networks. She serves in leadership roles within the German Society of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine (DGAI), the National University Medicine Network (NUM), and interdisciplinary working groups on pain medicine and PICS. As first spoke person of the "Wissenschaftlichen Arbeitskreis Wissenschaftlicher Nachwuchs (WAKWiN)" within DGAI, she is committed to fostering the academic development of early-career anesthesiologists. In this role, she helps advance WAKWiN’s mission to strengthen anesthesiological research, provide structured mentoring, enable nationwide networking, and promote high-quality scientific training and career development within the field.
Her contributions have been recognized with several awards, including the Charlotte-Lehmann Research Prize. Her overarching mission is to improve outcomes for surgical and critically ill patients by integrating translational neuroscience with patient-centered anesthesiology and intensive care.

PD Dr. med. Beatrice Oehler, M.A. ist Oberärztin für Anästhesiologie und Intensivmedizin sowie Advanced Clinician Scientist am Universitätsklinikum Essen. Sie ist Fachärztin für Anästhesiologie mit den Zusatzbezeichnungen Intensivmedizin und Notfallmedizin und besitzt zudem einen Master of Health Administration. Klinisch liegen ihre Schwerpunkte in der Anästhesie großer chirurgischer Eingriffe – einschließlich der Allgemein- und Herz-Thorax-Chirurgie –, der erweiterten Intensivtherapie mit besonderem Fokus auf ECMO-Therapie, der Transplantationsmedizin sowie der perioperativen Schmerzmedizin.
Wissenschaftlich leitet sie die Forschungsgruppe TRiP – Translational Research in Pain, in der sie Mechanismen postoperativer und intensivmedizinisch bedingter Schmerzen sowie sensorischer Dysfunktionen untersucht, einschließlich des Post-Intensive-Care-Syndroms. Sie absolvierte Forschungsaufenthalte an nationalen und internationalen Institutionen – unter anderem ein Postdoktorandenstipendium am King’s College London – und ist Inhaberin kompetitiver Förderpositionen wie dem Advanced Clinician Scientist-Programm (BMFTR). Sprecherin des Wissenschaftlichen Arbeitskreises Wissenschaftlicher Nachwuchs (WAKWiN) innerhalb der DGAI engagiert sie sich maßgeblich für die Förderung des wissenschaftlichen Nachwuchses in der Anästhesiologie. In dieser Funktion treibt sie die Mission des WAKWiN voran, die anästhesiologische Forschungstätigkeit nachhaltig zu stärken, junge Anästhesiologinnen und Anästhesiologen gezielt zu fördern, deutschlandweite Vernetzung zu ermöglichen, hochwertige Aus- und Weiterbildungsangebote bereitzustellen und strukturierte Mentoring-Programme zu etablieren.
Ihre wissenschaftlichen Leistungen wurden mehrfach ausgezeichnet, unter anderem mit dem Charlotte-Lehmann-Forschungspreis. Ihr übergeordnetes Ziel ist es, die Versorgung chirurgischer und kritisch kranker Patientinnen und Patienten zu verbessern, indem sie translationale Neurowissenschaften mit einer patientenzentrierten Anästhesiologie und Intensivmedizin verbindet.

Prof. Dr. Ulf Kahlert
About Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Ulf Kahlert
Prof. Dr. Ulf Dietrich Kahlert is a cancer researcher and stem cell biologist. He is Professor at the Medical Faculty of the Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg (OvGU), where he heads the Department of Molecular and Experimental Surgery within the Clinic for General, Visceral, Vascular, and Transplantation Surgery.
His research focuses on the biology of tumor stem cells, tumor plasticity and heterogeneity, as well as the development of personalized therapeutic approaches targeting tumor metabolism and therapy resistance. Further key areas include patient-derived “mini-tumors,” reproducibility in biomedical research, and innovative diagnostic and preclinical testing systems that reduce animal use.
After studying biology in Gießen, Brighton, and Freiburg, he earned his doctorate under Wolfgang Driever at the University of Freiburg and continued his postdoctoral research as a fellow of the German Cancer Aid at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore (USA). Following his habilitation at the University of Düsseldorf, he accepted the professorship in Magdeburg in 2021.
In addition to his research, Prof. Kahlert leads the molecular research division at the AN Institute for Quality Assurance in Operative Medicine and contributes to the STIMULATE research campus. He is also chair of the Magdeburg chapter of the German Association of University Professors and Lecturers and of the Faculty Commission for International Relations.

Er ist Professor an der Medizinischen Fakultät der Otto-von-Guericke-Universität Magdeburg (OvGU) und leitet dort die Abteilung für Molekulare und Experimentelle Chirurgie innerhalb der Klinik für Allgemein-, Viszeral-, Gefäß- und Transplantationschirurgie.
Seine Forschung konzentriert sich auf die Biologie von Tumorstammzellen, die Plastizität und Heterogenität solider Tumoren sowie auf die Entwicklung personalisierter Therapiestrategien, die den Zellstoffwechsel und die Therapieresistenz von Tumoren gezielt modulieren. Weitere Schwerpunkte liegen in der Etablierung patientenindividueller „Mini-Tumore“, der Sicherung reproduzierbarer Forschungsergebnisse und der Entwicklung innovativer Diagnostika und tierfreier Testsysteme.
Nach dem Biologiestudium in Gießen, Brighton und Freiburg promovierte er unter Wolfgang Driever an der Universität Freiburg und forschte anschließend als Stipendiat der Deutschen Krebshilfe am Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore (USA). Nach seiner Habilitation an der Universität Düsseldorf folgte er 2021 dem Ruf auf die Professur in Magdeburg.
Neben seiner wissenschaftlichen Tätigkeit leitet Prof. Kahlert die Molekulare Forschung am AN-Institut für Qualitätssicherung in der Operativen Medizin und ist in die Forschungsaktivitäten des Campus STIMULATE eingebunden. Er ist Vorsitzender der Ortsgruppe Magdeburg des Deutschen Hochschulverbands sowie der Kommission für Internationale Beziehungen der Medizinischen Fakultät.

About Prof. Dr. med. Nana-Maria Wagner
Prof. Dr. Nana-Maria Wagner is a Full Professor (W3) and Director of the Department of Anesthesiology at University Hospital of the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz.
She completed her scientific training in Germany and the United States, followed by a two-year postdoctoral fellowship at Stanford University. Since 2017, she has led her own research group funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG).
Her research focuses on translational vascular biology and perioperative immunology. In addition to her scientific work, she is deeply committed to the structured advancement and mentoring of early-career researchers.

Frau Prof. Dr. Nana-Maria Wagner ist W3-Professorin und Direktorin der Klinik für Anästhesiologie an der Universitätsmedizin Mainz.
Ihre wissenschaftliche Ausbildung absolvierte sie in Deutschland und den USA; im Anschluss folgte ein zweijähriger Postdoc-Aufenthalt an der Stanford University. Seit 2017 leitet sie eine eigene, durch die Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) geförderte Arbeitsgruppe.
Ihre Forschungsschwerpunkte liegen in der translationalen vaskulären Biologie und perioperativen Immunologie.
Neben ihrer wissenschaftlichen Arbeit engagiert sie sich mit großer Leidenschaft für die strukturierte Förderung des wissenschaftlichen Nachwuchses.

About Dr. Susanne Berger
Dr. Susanne Berger is a biologist and expert in scientific visualization. Since 2013, she has been working independently in Visual Science Communication, helping researchers convey complex content in a clear, concise, and visually engaging way.
Her guiding principle is to make science as simple as possible – and as complex as necessary. Clarity always comes first; design serves understanding, not decoration. She uses color purposefully and avoids unnecessary visual effects.
After completing her studies in Molecular Biotechnology (B.Sc. and M.Sc.) at Heidelberg University, she earned her PhD at the Edinger Institute of the University Hospital Frankfurt, with the degree Dr. phil. nat. awarded by the Department of Biology at Goethe University Frankfurt.

Dr. Susanne Berger ist promovierte Biologin und Expertin für wissenschaftliche Visualisierung. Seit 2013 arbeitet sie selbstständig im Bereich Visual Science Communication und unterstützt Forschende dabei, komplexe Inhalte klar, prägnant und visuell ansprechend zu vermitteln.
Ihr Ziel ist es, Wissenschaft so einfach wie möglich und dabei so komplex wie nötig darzustellen. Verständlichkeit steht für sie immer im Mittelpunkt – Gestaltung ist kein Selbstzweck, sondern dient der Klarheit. Farbe setzt sie gezielt ein, auf überflüssige Effekte verzichtet sie bewusst.
Nach ihrem Studium der Molekularen Biotechnologie (B.Sc. und M.Sc.) an der Universität Heidelberg schloss sie ihre Promotion am Edinger Institut des Universitätsklinikums Frankfurt ab und erhielt vom Fachbereich Biologie der Goethe-Universität den Titel Dr. phil. nat..
Im Workshop „Graphical Abstracts“ zeigt sie, wie wissenschaftliche Ergebnisse in klare und wirkungsvolle Visualisierungen übersetzt werden können – strukturiert, durchdacht und auf das Wesentliche reduziert.

Priv.-Doz. Dr. med. Michael Müther is a senior consultant in neurosurgery at the University Hospital Münster and the Osnabrück Hospital.
He completed his neurosurgical training under the supervision of Prof. Walter Stummer and deepened his expertise during a fellowship at Weill Cornell Medical College in New York. In 2022, he was awarded the Venia legendi in neurosurgery and has since combined clinical practice with academic teaching and research.
His academic background includes a medical degree from the University of Göttingen and a Master of Science from Queen Mary University of London.
Dr. Müther has received several awards and research fellowships. He is an active member of professional societies such as EANS, DGNC, NOA / DKG, and EANO. His scientific focus areas include surgical neuro-oncology and metabolic imaging.

Prof. Dr. Claudia Höhne is a specialist in anesthesiology with additional qualifications in intensive care, emergency medicine, and palliative medicine. She is also a certified systemic coach.
She worked for many years at Charité and Leipzig University Hospital, contributing to research, teaching, and clinical care. For the past 15 years, she has been a Professor of Anesthesiology at Leipzig University, and for the past 7 years, she has served as Chief Physician of the Department of Anesthesiology, Pain Therapy, Intensive Care, and Emergency Medicine at the DRK Clinics in Berlin-Köpenick.
With decades of expertise and leadership experience in the medical field, she understands the significance of transitioning from research to clinical practice — a key step for emerging leaders. As a systemic coach, she is dedicated to supporting and guiding young professionals and future leaders.

Frau Prof. Dr. Claudia Höhne ist Fachärztin für Anästhesiologie und hat die Zusatzbezeichnungen Intensiv-, Notfall- und Palliativmedizin. Sie ist zertifizierte Systemische Coachin.
Sie war an der Charité und am Universitätsklinikum Leipzig vielen Jahre in der Forschung, Lehre und Krankenversorgung tätig. Seit 15 Jahren ist sie Professorin für Anästhesiologie an der Universität Leipzig und seit 7 Jahren Chefärztin der Klinik für Anästhesie, Schmerztherapie, Intensiv- und Notfallmedizin der DRK Kliniken in Berlin-Köpenick.
Sie bringt jahrzehntelange Fach- und Führungserfahrung im medizinischen Bereich mit. Der Übergang aus der Forschung in die Klinik ist relevant für junge Führungskräfte. Als Systemische Coachin hat sie sich der Unterstützung und Begleitung von jungen Fach- und Führungskräften angenommen.

Dr. phil. Margarete Hubrath earned her PhD in 1994 at the University of Bonn with a dissertation on medieval Latin literature. She has many years of teaching and research experience at several universities and a research institute.
Since 2001, she has been working nationally and internationally as a trainer, consultant, and certified coach in academia.
Her main areas of expertise include individual career counseling and coaching for researchers, preparation for (inter)national appointment procedures and negotiations, as well as leadership and management in academia.
In 2005, she co-founded the “Coachingnetz-Wissenschaft” (Coaching Network for Academia).

Dr. Frank Wissing is Secretary General of the Medizinischer Fakultätentag e.V. (German Association of Medical Faculties) and a long-standing advocate for strengthening translational and clinical research in Germany.
He studied biology at the University of Osnabrück and completed his PhD at Wolfson College and the Department of Plant Sciences, University of Oxford. Furthermore he had postdoctoral research positions at the University of Cambridge and the Medical Faculty of Heidelberg University.
From 2002 to 2015, Dr. Wissing worked at the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG), first as a specialist for internal medicine and nutrition research, later as Programme Director in Department II, responsible for clinical studies and various medical disciplines including human genetics, pediatrics, epidemiology, and medical informatics. Since 2016, he has served as Secretary General of the Medizinischer Fakultätentag e.V. and as a member of its board.
Dr. Wissing is active in multiple national committees and advisory boards, including the National Steering Committee of the Medical Informatics Initiative, the Supervisory Boards of the Bremen Institute for Public Health and Statistics (BIPS) and the Cystic Fibrosis Institute, as well as the Scientific Advisory Board of Cochrane Germany. He also contributes to the DFG Senate Commission for Fundamental Questions of Clinical Research and serves on the TMF Executive Board and the Board of Trustees of the ZWM.

Von 2002 bis 2015 war Dr. Wissing bei der Deutschen Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) tätig, zunächst als Referent für Innere Medizin und Ernährungsforschung, später als Programmdirektor in der Abteilung II mit Verantwortung für klinische Studien sowie Fachgebiete wie Humangenetik, Pädiatrie, Epidemiologie und Medizinische Informatik. Seit 2016 ist er Generalsekretär des Medizinischen Fakultätentags e.V. und Mitglied des Vorstands.
Er wirkt in zahlreichen nationalen Gremien und Beiräten mit, darunter im Nationalen Lenkungsausschuss der Medizininformatik-Initiative, den Aufsichtsräten des Bremen Institute for Public Health and Statistics (BIPS) und des Cystic Fibrosis Institute sowie im Wissenschaftlichen Beirat der Cochrane Deutschland Stiftung. About Dr. med. Franziska Maria Ippen
Dr. Franziska Maria Ippen is a resident physician in the Department of Neurology at Heidelberg University Hospital and an NCT Fellow at the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) and the National Center for Tumor Diseases (NCT) in Heidelberg. She is currently a DKTK Fellow of the German Consortium for Translational Cancer Research and leads a specialized outpatient clinic for patients with brain metastases and meningeosis carcinomatosa.
As part of a DFG-funded postdoctoral fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School in Boston, she investigated the molecular mechanisms of brain metastasis and evaluated targeted therapies in preclinical models of patients with breast cancer brain metastases. Her current research in the laboratory of Prof. Felix Sahm (Department of Neuropathology, Heidelberg University Hospital) focuses on the molecular heterogeneity of brain metastases and their corresponding primary tumors using single-cell sequencing and spatial transcriptomics analyses.
Dr. Ippen has received multiple awards for her research, including the Breast Cancer Research Junior Award and early career prizes from the European Association for Cancer Research (EACR), the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO), and the Neuro-Oncological Working Group (NOA). She is currently serving as spokesperson of the Young NOA, a member of the DGN Commission for Neuro-Oncology, and a junior member of the EAN Scientific Panel on Neuro-Oncology. Previously, she was active as an EANO Youngster in the Scientific Committee of the European Association of Neuro-Oncology (EANO).
Her goal is to translate preclinical discoveries into clinically meaningful therapeutic approaches for patients with brain tumors.

PD Dr. med. Christopher Nelke is a consultant and research group leader in Neurology at BG University Hospital Bochum. He graduated from medical school in 2018 and obtained his doctorate in 2020.
Following residency training in Münster and Düsseldorf, he qualified as a specialist in Neurology in 2025 and, in the same year, completed the Habilitation in Experimental Neurology at Heinrich-Heine University Düsseldorf.
His research interest is in neuroimmunology with a focus on next-generation sequencing and translational models.
He is an Else Kröner Memorial Fellow with DFG project support.

Priv.-Doz. Dr. med. Christopher Nelke ist Oberarzt und Leiter einer Forschungsgruppe in der Neurologie am BG Universitätsklinikum Bochum. Er schloss sein Medizinstudium im Jahr 2018 ab und promovierte 2020. Nach seiner Facharztausbildung in Münster und Düsseldorf erhielt er 2025 die Anerkennung als Facharzt für Neurologie und habilitierte sich im selben Jahr im Fach Experimentelle Neurologie an der Heinrich-Heine-Universität Düsseldorf.
Sein Forschungsinteresse liegt im Bereich der Neuroimmunologie mit einem Schwerpunkt auf Next-Generation-Sequencing und translationalen Modellen. Er ist Else Kröner Memorial Fellow und wird durch ein DFG-Projekt gefördert.

Der Forschungsbereich Clinical Proteomics unter der Leitung von Prof. Dr. Barbara Sitek konzentriert sich im Rahmen seiner translationalen Forschung auf die Entwicklung und Anwendung proteomischer Methoden zur Beantwortung klinischer Fragestellungen. Die enge Anbindung an das Medical Proteome Center sowie der klinische Schwerpunkt in der Intensivmedizin schaffen eine wichtige Verbindung zwischen einer leistungsstarken analytischen Proteomik-Plattform und der klinischen Anwendung.
Von besonderem Interesse sind die Identifizierung krankheitsspezifischer Biomarker und therapeutischer Zielstrukturen sowie die Aufklärung pathologischer Zusammenhänge auf Proteinebene.
